Eilean Donan Castle

This castle is not as old as it looks; it's a reconstruction of an earlier building. It is one of the most photographed castles in Scotland, and often appears on calendars, usually in bright sunshine, under blue skies; but I like this moodier view.

I have never seen the castle before, Mags, but I love the photo! Sometimes sunshine is great, but sometimes a photo just look better with shadows and fog.

Adam and I both recognize this castle as the one we see on our Public Television station, which broadcasts a lot of British programming. In the tv spots, there's a huge red and yellow globe hanging suspended in the air to the left of the castle.

Seeing it like this, though, is much more impressionable! With the mist hanging heavily over the castle, casting everything in a mysterious light, it reminds me of when I read "The Mists of Avalon" by Marion Zimmer Bradley, and how I envisioned the setting as the story unfolded.

Beautiful photograph, Margaret. This in one of my favorites so far!
